In the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, this provision is covered under Section 73, which defines sexual harassment in a similar manner, addressing the same acts and behaviors.

Section 509 of the IPC addresses insulting the modesty of a woman through words, gestures, or any act intended to insult her modesty. In the BNS, this is covered under Section 78, which criminalizes intentional insults, including words, sounds, gestures, or exhibiting objects with the intention of outraging a woman’s modesty.

Both the IPC and BNS maintain these provisions to protect women from harassment and ensure their dignity and safety in public and workplace environments.
